Becoming Dr. Ruth at Playhouse in the Park

Most of us only know Dr. Ruth as the charmingly frank sex therapist who made it her career to guide audiences through their own sexual hangups via classic late night talk shows. When Dr. Ruth is pictured in the mind’s eye we probably see a smiling, bespectacled geriatric (she’s now 93), but that’s just what we’ve seen on the air. Becoming Dr. Ruth is a stage play that tells the unaired side of Dr. Ruth, exploring her history via a one-woman show narrating the many milestones in the celebrated doctor’s life. From her family’s separation during the Holocaust to her time spent as an Israeli sniper through her international acclaim, the show guides audiences through her life’s ups and downs with poignant humor and solemn introspection. The show runs through May 15. 2 p.m., May 1. Tickets start at $35. Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, 962 Mount Adams Circle, Mount Adams, cincyplay.com.
