Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval is ringing in Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with some new accolades (and a new goatee).
Gold House — a self-described national "Asian and Pacific Islander changemaker community, fighting together for socioeconomic equity" — has released its 2022 A100 List. The annual collection, unveiled each May, "honors the 100 Asians and Pacific Islanders (APIs) who had the most impact on culture and society over the past year."
The list includes "A1s," or those individuals who had a major impact in their respective fields or industries, as well as "legends" and "honorees." Pureval is listed as an A1 for his activism, advocacy and policy work.
He is joined by other A1 recipients including actor Simu Liu (Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Olympic gold medal-winner snowboarder Chloe Kim and DoorDash co-founder Tony Xu.
This year's list of legends features Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Michelle Yeoh and Mindy Kaling.

Aftab Pureval is the 70th Mayor of Cincinnati. He was raised in Southwest, Ohio, the son of first-generation Americans. He is making history as Cincinnati’s first Asian American Mayor. As Mayor, he is committed to serving Cincinnati’s 52 neighborhoods. He has made equitable economic growth a top priority of his administration, as well as a comprehensive reform and improvement of public safety, affordable housing, and environmental action.

Pureval was sworn into office on Jan. 4 as Cincinnati's first new mayor in eight years as well as the city's first Asian-American mayor. In December, he resigned from his position as clerk of courts for Hamilton County, where he had been since 2017. Before that, he was an associate with the international law firm White & Case, a special assistant United States attorney and counsel for global beauty care at Procter & Gamble.
In April, Pureval celebrated his first 100 days in office.
