Three Cincinnati-Area Locations to Participate in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

Three different Cincinnati-area swimming spots are participating in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.

The World's Largest Swimming Lesson is a worldwide event taking place on June 23 where millions of people can learn to swim. The event was started by the World Waterpark Association in 2010 and focused on preventing drownings.

According to the organization’s website, the event's goal is to share the message that learning to swim saves lives. It is supported by water safety training organizations across the world including the American Red Cross and the National Recreation and Park Association.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4, other than birth defects, is drowning.

The CDC also says that not being able to swim is one of the main factors that lead to drownings and that formal swimming lessons reduce that risk.

The Cincinnati locations hosting the World's Largest Swimming Lesson include Soak City at Kings Island, Sunlite Water Adventure at Coney Island and Silverlake "The Family Place" in Erlanger.
