Gold Spoon Creamery, a hand-scooped ice cream shop, is set to open its first location at Summit Park in Blue Ash.

After operating a pop-up shop within Proud Hound Coffee in Silverton, the ice cream shop will celebrate the grand opening of its new permanent location noon-10 p.m. Sept. 3.

Owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Emily and Nate Henderson and their business partner Erin Fay, the shop will serve unique and all-natural flavors. After the Hendersons married in 2020, they dreamed of opening a small business together. Both ice cream aficionados, they decided to go to “ice cream school” in Idaho with the goal of bringing their skills back home to Cincinnati.

“We just love ice cream,” says Emily Henderson. “We sold our house and ended up making some money on it and we used that money to follow our dream of starting a business.”

Gold Spoon’s namesake comes from the Hendersons' experience learning from the ice cream experts. Professional ice cream taste testers use a gold spoon for tasting because it allows them to taste the ice cream in its purest form. Since gold has no flavor, any aftertaste from the spoon is eliminated.

Customers can expect to choose from 16 different homemade flavors that range from traditional flavors like cookies n’ cream and pistachio to signature flavors like the St. Looey Gooey – a cream cheese-based ice cream with caramel swirl and vanilla poundcake. Other flavors include the Take 4, which is a peanut butter-based ice cream with chocolate covered pretzels and caramel swirl.

“People always ask us why it’s so good, and it’s really the fact that we use high-quality ingredients. It makes all the difference,” Henderson says.

Another fan favorite is the banana peanut butter ice cream with peanut butter cups mixed in. Other flavors include matcha and Cotton Candy Cloud. Gold Spoon avoids using food dyes in its ice cream, opting for natural alternatives. It also offers four dairy-free ice cream flavors and gluten-free waffle cones to provide “something sweet for everyone,” says Henderson.

For customers who can’t choose among all the flavors, Gold Spoon offers the “Create a Crate” option. For $8, customers can get four “golf-ball sized” scoops of ice cream in a miniature egg carton.

“It’s basically a portable ice cream flight,” Henderson says.

Featuring a modern art-deco interior, Gold Spoon Creamery will be open year-round with indoor and outdoor seating. Gold Spoon serves its ice cream in actual bowls with silverware, but if customers ice cream to go, the shop has take-away bowls and spoons made out of recycled and compostable materials.

“We’re intentional about our ice cream and how it’s served,” Henderson says. “We want it to be a place where people can come, sit down, and enjoy themselves and ice cream.”

At the grand opening celebration, the first 50 customers will receive a free scoop token, redeemable during their next visit. Festivities also include a unique flavor-creation contest, where customers can submit new flavor ideas for a chance to win “featured flavor of the month”. The contest winner will also have the opportunity to take home four pints of their winning creation.
