One of the most popular installations of BLINK festivals past is returning for 2022.
The Architects of Air "TIMISIEN" Luminarium will take over Ziegler Park from Oct. 13-16.
This will be the third BLINK installation by British production company Architects of Air. After wooing visitors with DODECALIS in 2019 and KATENA in 2017, the "TIMISIEN" Luminarium is slated to bring another calming yet provocative immersive experience to BLINK.
A luminarium is a building-sized sculpture designed for visitors to enter and explore. The artists behind the "TIMISIEN" Luminarium describe them as “somewhere between a womb and a cathedral," per Architects of Air's website. Visitors wander through a labyrinth of tunnels and domes, each glowing with color and a peaceful soundscape.
“Vivid reflections of liquid colour spill across the curved walls creating a world apart from the normal and everyday,” Architects of Air says on its website. “Visitors are excited to discover how different colours blend or resonate; how they transform faces and clothing.”
The Architects of Air Luminarium is open all day during BLINK festival, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Some folks might want to come back to the "TIMISIEN" Luminarium for a second or third time through – according to the artists, subtle shifts in daylight and weather can alter the appearance of the installation, so no two visits are alike.
The installation is designed for all ages and bodies, according to a release from Game Day Communications.
“Inclusivity is a hallmark of the Luminarium,” the release says. It is handicap accessible, family-friendly and “fitting for those with sensory processing disorders."
“It is a paradox that such a stimulating environment can also be so calming, comforting,” reads the artist website. “Many people find the luminarium a place for rest or contemplation.”
The "TIMISIEN" Luminarium was designed by Alan Parkinson. It’s made up of 20 domes, 18 of which are equipped with ornaments at the top. The ornaments “control colour and intensity in each dome where they shine below and encourage the visitor to look up,” says the website.
Two spacious domes provide visitors a break from the colorful labyrinth. A central dome features “rare heptagonal motif from Islamic traditional architecture,” per the website.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 10. Children under 2 are admitted free. Learn more at architects-of-air.com.
