Ohio Ranks in Top 10 States When it Comes to Generosity, Volunteering, According to New Study

Ohio is No. 9 out of the 50 states when it comes to volunteering and donating, according to this WalletHub study.

As the holidays approach, many are thinking of ways they can give back to the community. And, according to a new study from WalletHub, Ohioans rank high among other states when it comes to generosity.

Out of all 50 states, Ohio ranks ninth. Indiana came in at No. 30 and Kentucky wasn’t far behind at No. 36.

To rank the states, WalletHub used 19 metrics in two categories: volunteering and service and charitable giving.

Volunteering and service included metrics like the number of volunteers, the retention rates of those volunteers and the number of hours they give. It also looked at helping neighbors with favors and money, fundraising and collecting and distributing items like clothes and food.

Charitable giving included shares of income given and shares of the population giving both money and time. It also looked at the number of charities in each state, their regulations and how many of them were rated four stars.

Each category had 50 points for a total of 100. Out of 100 points, Ohio received 62, ranking 11th out of the states in volunteering and service and 17th when it came to giving. Our neighbors Indiana and Kentucky earned 55.25 and 54.07 points, respectively.
