This July, you can see iconic father-son duo Martin Sheen and Emilio Estévez as they talk about film, family, life and their roots in Ohio.
Film Cincinnati will be hosting a fireside chat with Sheen and Estévez at Memorial Hall Friday, July 7 as part of the Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival, which runs July 6-8.
“We are thrilled to host an evening with these icons; it’s been a dream of ours for over a decade. We are also proud to continue our collaboration with the Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival, which enables us to bring these exciting opportunities for both film and inclusion to our community,” Kristen Schlotman, executive director at Film Cincinnati, said in a press release.
Schlotman and Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival program director tt stern-enzi will moderate the discussion, with Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval giving introductions.
A celebrated actor, Sheen, who was born in Dayton, Ohio, starred in the hit show West Wing, as well as 65 feature films, including Apocalypse Now and Badlands. His son, Estévez, has his own lauded career, having starred in popular movies like The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, The Mighty Ducks and Cincinnati-shot The Public. Estévez is an OTR resident, the voice of the Cincinnati streetcar and is also a fierce advocate for filming in Ohio.
“I am elated that I’m finally able to get my mom and pop back to Cincinnati after all these years. The last time I was able to get Martin to the city was on our nationwide press tour for our film, The Way,” Estévez said in the release.
The Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival was founded by LADD, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit that helps adults with developmental disabilities, five years ago. LADD executive director Susan Brown-Knight says seeing Sheen and Estévez is a can’t-miss event.
“LADD and OTR Film Festival are excited to partner with Film Cincinnati on this epic event. It is a great addition to our thoughtful festival programming,” Brown-Knight added in the release.
The Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival is removing financial barriers to make itself accessible to everyone with pay-what-you-can ticketing, including for the fireside chat with Sheen and Estévez. You can get your tickets here.
