We now know who will be judging the Cincinnati Red Bull Flugtag next month.
Organizers Wednesday announced the celebrity panel of judges for the high-flying event will include former Cincinnati Bengal Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson; three-time Olympic skier Nick Goepper; local drag queen and entertainer Jessica Dimon; TikTok content creator Cale Saurage; and media personality Chloe Pavlech.
These judges will determine the winner of the Flugtag, evaluating the teams on the creativity of their craft design, their performance and the distance of their flight.
“I grew up loving the city of Cincinnati, so it means a ton to me to be able to play such a big role in the upcoming Red Bull Flugtag,” Goepper said in a press release. “I can’t wait to see what teams have in store for me, my fellow judges and the Queen City.”
The Red Bull Flugtag – an event that challenges teams to build a flying machine and pilot it – is coming to Sawyer Point and Yeatman’s Cove Saturday, Aug. 12 starting at 1 p.m. Thousands of spectators are expected to gather as 40 human-powered crafts take to the skies. The teams, consisting of up to five people, will launch the one-of-kind airships they made off a 27-foot-tall flight deck and into the Ohio River.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome such a unique and fun spectacle to Cincy,” Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval said in March when the event was announced. “Red Bull Flugtag offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for residents and visitors to get together, show off their creativity, and celebrate what makes this community so special. I can’t wait to take part.”
And the judges aren’t the only people deciding on a winner. Fans can also vote for their favorite craft to win a People’s Choice Award at redbull.com/flugtagcincinnati.
Viewers tuning into the Flugtag broadcast will also get an immersive look at the live action from T-Mobile’s 5G Advanced Network Solutions.
“High-definition drone camera feeds will deliver bird’s-eye views of teams and airships as they take flight, while a 5G POV camera on the water will provide up-close, high-definition views as they land along the Ohio River. Red Bull will also test new anemometers powered by 5G, ensuring staff and participating teams stay informed of wind speed, pressure and direction in real-time,” the press release states.
If you can’t catch the Cincinnati Red Bull Flugtag live, ESPN2 will broadcast a replay on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m.
