A Palate-Cleansing Slideshow of 25 Innocent, Adoptable Dogs and Cats

Have you been considering adopting a new furry pal? With dog-friendly coffee shops, bakeries, bars and parks, Cincinnati is a great place to be a pet owner. While there are many good boys and girls looking for their forever home, there's a lot to think about when making the decision to bring home a pet. What kind of breed is right for you and your lifestyle? What adoption agencies should you look at? If you're serious about making this life step, adopting a pet is very rewarding — for you and the pet that gets a new home. We've compiled a list of available pets from a few local adoption programs to help you on your mission of finding the pet that's right for you. This is just a small glimpse into each agency's list of adoptable pets. If you are interested in seeing what else they have to offer, visit their websites to learn more. Also, keep in mind that each program has their own application process and some take longer than others. If you'd like to help out the cause but aren't able to adopt right now, you can always donate to one of these rescues or a number of other local pet adoption organizations. *Some pets in the slideshow may have pending adoptions. Please contact the rescues for more info. **All caption information taken from pet listing.

Swayze
Age: 3 Years / Breed: Bearded Collie / Sheep Dog Mix / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue
“Have you ever met someone super happy to wake up every morning and excited every single day about life? Well, now you have - meet Swayze! This 3 year old, 40 pound bundle of joy is just about as close to total happiness as you can get! Swayze is a Bearded Collie/Sheepdog Mix. She came into rescue severely matted, underweight and barely able to walk. Thanks to some good food, an amazing groomer and some proper diagnostics, it turns out that Swayze has a neurological condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. This condition makes Swayze wobble when she walks. CH is not painful, nor is it degenerative, so we have no reason to believe that Swayze will not live a long, happy, wobbly life!”

Tioga
Age: Adult / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Female / Rescue: OAR
“Tioga is one of our few remaining Texas girls! This sweetheart can be a bit shy at first, but once she's comfortable, her goofball side will definitely come out. She adores toys, especially the ones that squeak! She does not like to be picked up, but she does love hanging out in high places and getting pets and lovies when she's eye level with you. She got along well with the cat she came from Texas with (another green eyed gray girl, who is also still available for adoption, btw), but seems pretty indifferent to other cats for the most part. Since she is pretty reserved about big life changes (you know, like getting adopted), she will need an adopter who's willing to give her lots time to settle in before expecting her sweet, loveable, silly personality to emerge. If you'd be willing to give her that time, just fill out a questionnaire on our website and we'll get you scheduled to meet her!”

Toodle oo
Age: 5 weeks / Breed: Labrador Retriever / Golden Retriever Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue
“These adorable little pups came into rescue at only 5 weeks old. They were riddled with worms, parasites and a tough ringworm infection! After a lot of love, care and medicine, they are now happy, healthy pups ready to say GOODBYE to rescue and HELLO to their forever homes!
These pups were born August 3rd, making them around 15 weeks of age. Their mom was reported to be a Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever Mix but their father is unknown. Based on how different these puppies look, it's tough to even guess Dad's breed! Because we did not have mom or dad in rescue, we can not guarantee the puppies' breed, adult weight and size, but based on their current weights (12-15 pounds each) we would guess for them to grow to be medium size dogs. The Goodbye pups have been exposed to other dogs, cats and handled by children. They are happy and well socialized! Because their foster family was focused on getting them healthy, they are not potty trained and have not started obedience training, so they will be a clean slate for their future families! The Goodbye pups have been through a lot in their short lives, but now that they are healthy and happy, they are ready for their forever homes”

Vanna
Age: 9 Years / Breed: Dilute Tortoiseshell & Domestic Short Hair Mix / Sex: Female / Rescue: Save the Animals Foundation
“Vanna is a beautiful soft grey-beige and has absolutely the downiest coat we have ever felt. Her name evokes the thoughts of a lovely game show host, but her personality has proven that she is not one to be in the spotlight. Vanna is shy with a demeanor of reservation, but if you gain her trust, she will be a loyal friend. Although transitioning from her summer to autumn years, our lovely girl is in solid health. She did have a full mouth extraction due to dental disease, but this does not stop our beauty from enjoying her meals, including crunchy food, with gusto.Vanna gets along fine with cats in her room and can often be found snuggling together with her two boyfriends, Spiderman and Patton. If you have time and patience to acclimate her into your home, she will most certainly become a loyal companion and there is no doubt, her lucky letter will come up!”

Yakko
Age: 5 Months / Breed: Domestic Short Hair / Sex: Male / Rescue: Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue
“Meet the Animaniacs litter! Yakko, Wakko, and Dot are 5 month old, short hair kittens who are ready to find their forever home! They are your typical kittens, spunky and cute! They love to wrestle and play with toys together. Yakko is the sweetheart of the group and loves to cuddle and get all the pets from his fosters. Wakko and Dot are a little more shy at first and need time to adjust to a new place and people. They all love treats of any kind and start purring the second you shake the treat bag. These sweeties, especially Wakko and Dot would do best in a home with other cats that can show them the world isn't as scary as they think it is! They are all litter box trained.”
