UPDATE: HGTV released this description of the refurbished home in a press release: "HGTV Urban Oasis 2018 started as a home with great architectural lines and character to spare, but it was let down by a cramped interior and dated style. ...The approximately 2,000-square-foot home is painted a deep shade of charcoal, which contrasts sharply with the ultra-white trim and the fire engine red of the front door. These pops of color outside lay the groundwork for the flirty and playful design of the interior, where you’ll find a sizable modern kitchen, three bedrooms — including a magnificent master suite — and an open floor plan enhanced with a new living room addition. HGTV Urban Oasis 2018 also features a stunning outdoor space with a covered pergola and a detached garage that has been transformed into a furnished lounge, complete with air conditioning."
HGTV is transforming a 3-bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom Dutch Colonial Revival home at 2810 Hyde Park Avenue in Oakley* as part of its 2018 Urban Oasis project. The annual home giveaway sweepstakes renovates houses in different cities and gives them away as a prize. Last year's house — a craftsman bungalow in Knoxville, Tenn. — had 65 million entries.
You won't be able to enter to win the just-announced Cincinnati home until Oct. 1, but you can follow along on the HGTV website for updates and to see when episodes of an associated TV show might air.
While one could argue that Oakley isn't super "urban" per se, according to theTV promo, renovations are almost complete at the house. There aren't any photos of that yet, but there are plenty of before an in-process shots. Host Egypt Sherrod narrated the promo, calling Cincinnati "the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts, thrill seekers, and fans of amazing local food." Cincinnati-based contractor Craig Russell, of The English Contractor, is assisting with the remodel with build manager/HGTV Design Star contestant Dan Faires, who is quoted in slideshow of the renovation as saying, "Remodeling HGTV Urban Oasis 2018 was an absolute dream. The Dutch Colonial Revival style gave this home so much architectural interest and terrific curb appeal, however, it presented some unique challenges structurally and spatially. Great architectural design and a new addition opened this house up, drastically improving the layout and flow of the home, while maintaining the historic charm and original character. I am slightly biased, but I feel this is one of the most dramatic transformations HGTV has ever done!"
The HGTV Urban Oasis 2018 grand prize winner will receive the fully furnished residence plus a $50,000 cash prize provided by national mortgage lender Quicken Loans®.
