A unique property in Greater Cincinnati’s Glendale neighborhood was recently put up for sale, offering a chance to own a piece of local history.
This Classical Revival-style home, which resides on the National Register of Historic Places, was one of 20 original houses built in Glendale. And realtor for the property Sue Lewis says the house once served as a stop on the Underground Railroad.
The home, located at 20 Wood Ave., was built in 1855 by “Messrs. Gross and Dietrich,” according to a historical document provided by Lewis. Glendale, which is now Glendale Historic District, was one of the first planned communities in Ohio.
With more than 4,700-square-feet, the home boasts six bedrooms, two full bathrooms and one half-bathroom. Seven fireplaces are featured throughout the home — the chilly Ohio winters stand no chance. A sun-room set off from the kitchen and a spacious brick patio bring elements of nature into the home.
There is a carriage house on the north end of the lot that at one time featured a caretaker’s residence on the second floor. The home is priced at $799,500.
