According to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), Ohio has the fourth-highest number of credible Bigfoot sightings. That's exactly why Pleasant Hill Lake Park in Perrysville, Ohio, hosted its first-ever Bigfoot Basecamp Weekend Sept. 9-11, 2022.
Hundreds of people with both professional interest and mere curiosity hoped for a memorable encounter with the fabled ape-like creature at Pleasant Hill Lake, and the park welcomed them wholeheartedly with what essentially was a Bigfoot mini-convention
. The weekend included expert-led talks, demonstrations and squatchin’ (“Sasquatch hunting,” for those in the know), with BFRO founder and Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot
star Matt Moneymaker as the main draw. Moneymaker even debuted new technology that he claimed could aid the hunt in a big way.
Not everybody who went to Bigfoot Basecamp were Sasquatch believers, and not everybody was thrilled with the overall experience. Still, watching Moneymaker beam live drone shots straight to the park was enough to satisfy plenty of would-be explorers. Read CityBeat's cover story about the Bigfoot-hunting experience
