On Dec. 2, Augusta Distillery in Bracken County invited CityBeat staffers for a fun, team-bonding experience touring the distillery and barrel-thieving. We also got the opportunity to try pours of their Buckner's 13-year single barrel bourbon.
Augusta Distillery is open for this interactive barrel-tasting experience and tour. Tickets are $29 and can be booked on their website. You must be at least 21 years old to participate.
According to a tour description on their website, "Our tasting leaders will guide you through a unique hands-on barrel experience, using a copper whiskey thief to taste a variety of bourbons straight from our barrels. You will get to pop the barrel bung yourself and thieve the whiskey straight from the cask and into your glass." You will also have the chance to enjoy their wheated, high rye and traditional bourbons.
After the barrel-tasting you'll get to go on a "pardon our dust" tour of the facility, which is undergoing renovations, and learn more about the distillery's plans for the space.
