After an accident closed its doors earlier this month, a favorite Over-the-Rhine restaurant is back to slinging its beloved fried fish.
Alabama Fish Bar has reopened after a pickup truck smashed into its front doors on Oct. 4. Currently, the restaurant is serving via "a temporary walk-up window along Race Street," according to a press release from Alabama Fish Bar's landlord, 3CDC.
3CDC says they are waiting on supplies to repair the storefront and expect it to reopen in January of 2023. Until then, the fish bar's walk-up window will remain the only way for customers to snag a platter of perch, cod or whiting.
The three-decade-old eatery closed from October 2021 to January 2022 to undergo a facelift after entering into a new lease with 3CDC. The acquisition was part of 3CDC's $50 million Willkommen project, which includes building/rehabbing several buildings across Over-the-Rhine to create 163 residential units (with some affordable units) and nearly 20,000 square feet of commercial space.
Out of the deal, Alabama Fish Bar got an updated storefront, new flooring and paint and some new kitchen equipment.
Owner Anna Fillis said at the time of the closure that planning has taken a little while but the renovations would be worth the wait.
“Things take time, and if you want something done right, you can’t rush into it,” Fillis said. “It’s been about three years in the making, but I’m happy for the change, and excited for the future.”
Alabama Fish Bar is located at 1601 Race St., Over-the-Rhine.
