Folks are buzzing over one local candy company's newest creation. Cincinnati-based Fawn Candy Co. is celebrating the invasion of the 17-year cicada Brood X by giving chocolate lovers a taste of sweet revenge.

The shop announced on May 26 that they are selling roasted-cicada-topped chocolates. The new menu item has been slightly controversial on social media, with some users excited to give it a shot, and others hoping it's just a marketing ploy.

The chocolates cost $2 for a single piece, or $5 for a three-pack.

The cicadas were harvested from tree trunks, frozen and then roasted before being perched atop chocolatey disks, store manager of the brand's Harrison location Cara Tenhundfeld tells CityBeat

The crews made about 500 treats and will evaluate their plans for a next batch once they sell out.

Tenhundfeld says she's heard that the cicadas smell like baked potatoes when being roasted, and folks who have tried one say they taste like potatoes or peanut butter.

The treats are available at both the Rookwood Pavilion location (2692 Madison Road, Rookwood) and Harrison location (4271 Harrison Ave., Harrison).
