Three years ago, Covington's Braxton Brewing Co. resurrected the local Bavarian Brewing Company's 1800s Bavarian lager to pay homage to that city's iconic brand. And starting Jan. 11, fans can get a taste of the select-style lager in six-pack cans at the taproom, Kroger stores and wherever Braxton beer is sold.

The lager — a "clean, refreshing light lager that features noble hops that drive enough flavor and bitterness to balance the base beer, with 4.0% ABV and 11 IBUs," according to Braxton — is a celebration of Braxton's commitment to the region and its Northern Kentucky home.

“From the day our doors opened on Seventh Street to the first Dark Charge Day to the day the Rooftop was opened, Braxton has made its community a top priority. When the Bavarian Lager brand was revived in 2017 with the Select Lager, there was always the opportunity to grow this brand in the spirit and tradition of the Bavarian Brewery,” says Evan Rouse, co-founder and CPO of Braxton Brewing Company, in a release. “Not only is Bavarian Select Lager an amazing addition to our lineup, it allows us to honor the brewers that paved the way for Braxton.”

Bavarian Brewing Company originally opened in Covington in 1866 as DeGlow & Co. but was renamed Bavarian in the 1870s. It closed its doors in 1966, 100 years after it opened.

The can release party will be held noon-11 p.m. Jan. 11 and will include a tapping of the Bavarian Select Lager and six-packs for sale, plus soft pretzels from Wunderbar, music from Root Cellar Xtract and breweriana from the original Bavarian Brewing Company.

Braxton is located at 27 W. Seventh St., Covington.
