Frisch's Big Boy outside of Busken Bakery, "scoping out the competition"

Over the past few years, a pumpkin pie rivalry between Cincinnati's Frisch's Big Boy and Busken Bakery has caught the attention of pie lovers across the city. It began in 2012, when Frisch's placed a billboard advertising their seasonal pumpkin pie above Busken's flagship Hyde Park store on Madison Road. The advertisement read, "Hello, Pumpkin." In retaliation, Busken Bakery put up a sign that read, "That's 'Mr. Pumpkin' to you, Big Boy."

The rest is history, with seasonal one-upmanship recurring just in time for fall this year. The 2018 pie wars were kicked off by Frisch's with a video of Big Boy checking out the competition and then putting up a Frisch's billboard above Busken's. Big Boy ends the video with, "Your Move, Busken." (See video below.)

Whether Frisch's pumpkin pie has your heart or you're a lifelong Busken lover, this pie war isn't the only reason to dig in to your favorite. This Sunday (Oct. 14) is National Dessert Day. Represent your go-to pie while celebrating a day devoted to the sweeter things in life.

According to Jackie Reau, CEO of Public Relations for Frisch's, "This friendly rivalry (#PieWars2018) between Frisch’s and Busken Bakery is the 'war we all win!'" We couldn't agree more.
