If you've ever wanted to eat like a soccer star, now you can.
Chipotle has announced it will be releasing two special bowls inspired by members of the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT), including Cincinnati's own Rose Lavelle.
The "Rose Lavelle Bowl" launches on July 1 and will be available for a limited time via the Chipotle app and on chipotle.com. According to a release, to bowl is Lavelle's "go-to" order and includes chicken, brown rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa, roasted chili-corn salsa, lettuce, guacamole and a side of chipotle-honey vinaigrette.
Chipotle is also releasing a "Sophia Smith Bowl." The bowl, named for Lavelle's USWNT teammate who plays forward, features chicken, brown rice, black and pinto beans, tomatillo salsa, roasted corn salsa, sour cream and cheese.
"Fans will be able to experience Rose and Sophia’s essential training meal while watching the USWNT in their qualifying matches throughout July," says Chipotle in a release. Lavelle, Smith and the USWNT are preparing for the 2022 Concacaf W Championship, the region’s qualifying tournament for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The competition will be held in Monterrey, Mexico, and will run July 4-18.
Chipotle customers who purchase either bowl will also be entered to win an autographed jersey from each soccer star.
Chipotle is a sponsor of the U.S. Soccer Federation and says the chain's "Real Food for Real Athletes" program helps showcase how sports figures fuel up — specifically with Chipotle.
“Rose and Sophia are ringing in a new generation for U.S. women’s soccer, and we’re excited to play a part in powering their training regimens as they prepare for the world’s biggest stage,” said Stephanie Perdue, Chipotle vice president of marketing.
Lavelle, a midfielder, filmed a "behind-the-scenes" look at her journey to joining the USWNT, with an insider tip for the best way to enjoy her bowl. Hint: It involves triple-dipping a chip.
Earlier this year, Lavelle was named the "Budweiser Woman of the Match" during the USWNT's first match of the 2022 SheBelieves Cup. The star also made headlines for re-signing with Seattle's OL Reign for a two-year contract.
In September 2021, Lavelle and the USWNT demolished Paraguay in the first-ever U.S. Soccer match at TQL Stadium in the West End, with Lavelle scoring in just the fourth minute of the match. Lavelle also helped the USWNT win a bronze medal in the 2020 Olympics last year, scoring the team’s first goal in its annihilation of New Zealand.
Lavelle, who graduated from Mount Notre Dame High School in 2013, was named the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Player of the Year during her senior year. After a career at the University of Wisconsin, Lavelle became the No. 1 draft pick in the 2017 National Women’s Soccer League, playing for the Boston Breakers.
