Our Daily Bread, a soup kitchen and social center on Race Street in Over-the-Rhine, is hosting a celebrity chef cook-off fundraiser to "raise awareness and financial support" for their mission.

On March 1, they'll host The Ultimate Soup Kitchen Challenge: Scraps Rescued Food Cook-Off from 2-6 p.m. at Rhinegeist (1910 Elm St., OTR).

"The fact that we rescue surplus food and transform it into nutritious meals gave us the idea of challenging local chefs to cook under the same conditions. We've partnered with Rhinegeist Brewery and created SCRAPS: Rescued Food Cook-Off, a one-day event with two competitions; a live chef battle and a cook-off battle," says the event description.

General admission tickets are $75 and include access to the rescued food cook-off at the taproom, which features lite bites created from salvaged food and a mystery ingredient. Participating chefs include Tim Jermann from Bakersfield, Jessica Graham from Boomtown Biscuits & Whiskey, Rob Scannell from The Butcher & Barrel, Harvey Germain from Mac's Pizza Pub, Aaron Owen from The Mercer, Marvin Smith from Ollie's Trolley, Anthony Berin from Social OTR, Francisco Alfaro from OTR Chili, Kymberly Wilbon from The Passionate Plate and Daniel Flanigan from Zula.

VIP tickets cost $150 and include admission to a live chef battle at Our Daily Bread (1730 Race St., OTR), where Kayla Robison from Arnold's Bar & Grill and Jose Salazar of Goose & Elder, Salazar and Mita's will go head-to-head in a 20-minute competition to see who can make the best dish using rescued food. Bob Herzog from Local 12 will emcee and the evening includes appetizers, a drink by Molly Wellmann, two wine tickets and entry to the Rhinegeist event.

Scraps Rescued Food Cook-Off takes place 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 1. Tickets are $75 general admission and $150 VIP. Rhinegeist, 1910 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine, ourdailybread.us.
