A fresh, new food truck concept is slated to open early next year in the Queen City. BOL will specialize in acai bowls, offering five different varieties to choose from, plus "pops" and build-your-own bowls.

Founded by husband-and-wife duo Michael and Angel Moore, they wanted to take their passion for acai and share it with the Cincinnati community while offering a health-conscious option to the food truck mix.

If you're not familiar with acai (pronounced ah-sah-EE), it is a berry, similar to a blueberry but darker, that originates from the Amazon. According to Angel, people of the Amazon used to serve it atop warm fish for a savory-styled dish, but the more recently popular acai offering is a bit different.

"The Gracies, the family that helped put jiu-jitsu on the map, took the acai berry puree and began serving it cold with fruit on top. This picked up and took flight and has turned into the phenomena of the acai bowls," Angel says.

The acai puree is full of antioxidants and is blended with a variety of fruits such as strawberries or bananas, layered with various toppings like fruit, Nutella drizzle or coconut shavings and finished with housemade granola. The bowls are gluten free and free of added sugar and range from 200 to 500 calories.

"It is our hope to not only share the delicious taste and variety that an acai bowl has but also help educate people on its health benefits," Angel says.

BOL will offer their acai bowls in three different sizes and price points: $7 for a 12-ounce bowl, $10 for a 16-ounce bowl and $12 for a 24-ounce bowl. They will also offer their frozen acai pops for $6 and sell their homemade granola, which is used in the bowls, for $15 for 16-ounces.

They plan to open in mid-January and will be available Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at various locations throughout the city. They are working toward securing regular locations where they can be found throughout the week. If you are interested in having the BOL truck outside of your establishment, contact the team. Their schedule will be available on their social media pages as well as via the Cincinnati Food Truck Association.

If you and some friends or co-workers are interested in trying BOL, reach out to schedule "Social-Bols," where they will deliver samples for five to 10 people in exchange for a social media post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. The also offer catering for larger parties and events.
