Purple Poulet has become a local gem for its Southern fried chicken and expansive bourbon selection. And since opening its doors on Dayton, Kentucky's main street in 2016, the eatery has developed a rather devoted following, as well as praise from a national publication.

But after the spacial limitations solidified by the coronavirus pandemic, the eatery announced via a Facebook post on March 5 that it will be relocating to a larger space that offers an outdoor patio in Newport.

“The City of Dayton has been good to us, however we are so limited on space, we have no room for expansion and no way to offer outdoor dining," Chef Zumwalde says in a post. “It’s very bitter-sweet! Dayton has been our home however the limited space does not coincide well with social distancing and the reduced capacity necessary to keep everyone safe. We will miss Dayton immensely but are excited to make new memories in Newport.”

The restaurant will take over the space formerly occupied by The Green Derby and is currently undergoing renovations. Purple Poulet is slated to open in its new home in mid to late summer, featuring more quaint dining rooms (which can be reserved for private events), and an outdoor patio with a bonus second bar.

The Dayton, Kentucky location remains open until then, and is currently offering dine-in as well as several carry-out specials.
