Fairfax-based distillery Karrikin Spirits Company is celebrating the end to a rather wearisome year with a New Year's Day brunch. But following the hearty feast, they will be closing the doors to the distillery's restaurant operation indefinitely.

"This isn't a 'goodbye.' It's a 'see you later,'" a statement from Karrikin reads.

"It's no secret how difficult life has been for most of us since March. Our staff at The Hearth has gone above and beyond to try and make things work — giving you a safe and socially distanced, yet entertaining dining and drinking experience. They've served you as best they can while concerns grow for the safety and wellbeing of themselves and their families. But it's clear that right now just isn't the time to keep The Hearth open. Even with a vaccine coming along, numbers are surging and unpredictable restrictions for bars and restaurants continue. With that weighing heavily on us, we're making the extremely difficult decision to shutter the food operation for now."

Although they are closing their restaurant side until further notice, the establishment will still be working hard on their spirits, beer and sparkling spirits and plan to produce some "fun projects coming out of our distillery soon to help keep your spirits lifted through the winter."

>The ticketed brunch event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on New Year's Day, and features your choice of one main dish, one side dish and a "pick 3" mix-and-match cocktail flight.

Main dishes include shrimp and grits, rum raisin French toast casserole or breakfast tacos; sides include home fries with ketchup, pumpkin-spiced oatmeal with pumpkin seed granola, gooseberry jam and French vanilla almond granola yogurt parfait, eggs or bacon.

The tickets cost $30 in advance, or $35 at the door. The event page invites guests to dress up or come in their pajamas.
