Findlay Market, Ohio's oldest continuously operating public market, is offering some relief to shoppers during the COVID-19 crisis.

In association with the Johnson Foundation, a grantmaking nonprofit that serves the city's urban core, the market is giving away grocery credits via its app through April 30.

The market says, "We are asking the community to nominate someone deserving of some relief during this time. The Grocery Relief Program will run for 4 weeks (April 3-30), with 8 winners selected each week. Those winners will be selected on and contacted every Thursday."

Each winner will get a $50 credit that can be used on the  Findlay Market Shopping App. You can nominate people at findlaymarket.org.

You can submit any number of nominations for anyone who is deserving of a credit, but the market asks you only nominate the same person one time.

The market says you can nominate "anyone that you think could use a little extra relief, whether it is a friend, family member or yourself. This could be someone in the healthcare field, a person in the restaurant industry that was recently laid off, a first responder, a man or woman juggling childcare or health issues — whoever you think could use a little extra help."

Winners must also use the Findlay Market Shopping App. It cannot be exchanged for cash or a gift card.

The app, available for download on Apple's App Store and Google Play, gives shoppers the ability to order from all of their favorite Findlay Market restaurants, shops and vendors, and pick up all of their selections at once — or have them delivered to their home or workplace.

Each merchant has a selection of available items: various pints of ice cream from Dojo Gelato; a variety of baked goods from Em's Sourdough Bread; steaks from Eckerlin Meats; fresh produce from ETC Produce & Provisions; and cheese, wine and jam from The Rhined.
