Are you a fan of Southern soda Cheerwine? Now you can eat it and not just drink it at one local restaurant.
Libby's Southern Comfort in Covington is serving Cheerwine-flavored soft serve for a limited time.
"We've done this twice. It's a fan favorite," says Libby's owner/operator Brad Wainscott of the soda-infused dessert.
The wild cherry Cheerwine soda — made with pure cane sugar — has been around since 1917 and is the "oldest continuing soft drink run by the same family," per its website.
A cone of the soft serve is $3.25 and a cup is $4.50. The special ice cream concoction is made by using soda that has been boiled down until it's a "syrup consistency," says Wainscott.
"Traveling to South Carolina a lot made us fall in love with Cheerwine," he says. "It reminds us of everything good when vacationing with family."
If you miss the Cheerwine soft serve this time around, Wainscott promises it will be back. Libby's also has a frozen Cheerwine bourbon slush on its permanent menu, made with the soda and Kentucky bourbon and garnished with a Bada Bing cherry.
Libby's Southern Comfort is located at 35 W. Eighth St., Covington, libbyssoutherncomfort.com.
