As Graeter's Ice Cream approaches its 150th anniversary, the company has unveiled a new packaging design to celebrate the occasion.

Slated to hit grocery store shelves and scoop shops later this summer, the updated pints have a darker, richer color palette that calls to mind Graeter's infamous gigantic chocolate chunks (you can't rightly call them "chips"). The packaging will be rolled first out on flavors including Salted Caramel, Oregon Strawberry and Cookies & Cream.

"Our new packaging reflects how we’ve grown as a brand over the last 150 years," says Richard Graeter, a fourth-generation owner and president/CEO, in a release. "We’ve enlarged ingredient images, showcasing the flavor profile and indulgence without being busy or overly designed.”

The company says the darker color will set it apart from the "traditional white packaging that frequents ice cream freezer doors." (There's a fun fact for your day: Ice cream packaging is typically lighter in color.)
