Since early January, an anonymous Instagram user going by the name of please.get.corndogs.nsyc has been advocating for the addition of corn dogs to Northside Yacht Club's menu.
Over a dozen posts later (containing a variety of corn dog-themed memes — including a depiction of Jesus Christ on a cross made out of corn dogs), Northside Yacht Club finally gave the people want they want: a sensuous celebration of the corn dog.
The event, called Corn Dogs for Horndogs, will be held on Valentine's Day. Ten lucky customers (first come, first served) will be able to order a corn dog stuffed inside a deep-fried coney. For the remaining corn dog enthusiasts, NSYC is bringing back its signature Avril-Bleh mettwurst hand-dipped in batter "and fried to golden perfection" for one day only, according to an Instagram post from NSYC. They are open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday.
"We were getting bombarded by a lot of Corndog Content and reposts so it became something we couldn't ignore. I don't know why they wanted corndogs (besides the fact that corn dogs are delicious)," Stuart MacKenzie, co-owner of NSYC, told CityBeat in an email.
As it turns out, the anonymous user behind the please.get.corndogs.nsyc Instagram account (who is "around NSYC a lot," they tell CityBeat), had nothing inappropriate in mind when creating the corn dog fan account — just an appreciation of the staple food and NSYC.
"I had been thinking to myself for months about how good a NSYC corndog would be, and while .5 beers in after a Friday shift I decided to take matters into my own hands and started this Instagram account," please.get.corndogs.nsyc told CityBeat. "NSYC quickly re-shared my posts and it took off from there.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely horny and appreciate corndogs' phallic characteristics, but that wasn't my initial intention. But with Valentine's Day approaching, I couldn't get the Cornussy Dussy off my Mentussy."
