Fairfield's JUNGLE JIM'S, the popular grocery store known for its selection of international foods, had signed the letter of intent for its long-awaited second store, closer to Cincinnati. The new site will be part of the huge "urban village" to be called Cincinnati Millworks, located in Oakley in the space once occupied by Cincinnati Milacron. Along with Jungle Jim's, the 1.3 million square foot development will house a state-of-the-art cinema, a 175 room upscale hotel, office and retail, built around a three-acre town square. While focusing on the international market, quality meats, cheeses and wines that have made the Fairfield location a destination shopping experience, the new 75,000 square-foot Jungle Jim's "will have a totally different look and feel than the original," states Phill Adams, director of development. "We're going to honor the history of the old [Kirk and Blum] building, keeping much of the original architecture and photos that tell the story." He adds. The new store will open about two years from now.
7 DAYS FOR SIDS is extending the invitation for the third year for area restaurants and businesses to participate in the week-long fund-raising event founded by Chef Jean-Robert de Cavel and his wife, Annette, in honor of their daughter, Tatiana, after losing her to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 2002. The event has raised over $80,000 for the SIDS Network of Ohio and the Tatiana de Cavel Scholarship Fund, which gives financial support to students of the Midwest Culinary Institute. Some of the highlights include wine tastings, gourmet dinners and happy hour celebrations at dozens of area restaurants and businesses; CHEFAPALOOZA, a cooking and dining event that pairs three world-class chefs with three local celebrities; and a champagne brunch and silent auction at Cincinnati Museum Center on Father's Day.
