Downtown's recently revitalized Court Street is getting tropical with the addition of Key West-themed bar Pilar. The new drinking destination, from Four Entertainment Group (4EG) hosts its grand opening celebration on Saturday, Aug. 28.
Located across the street from Kroger on the Rhine, the bar takes inspiration from famed American author Ernest Hemingway — the bar's namesake is in honor of Hemingway's 38-foot fishing boat.
According to a release from 4EG, Pilar will be decorated with lush tropical plants, nautical artwork and a boat replica hanging from the ceiling.
The bar's menu will feature a selection of 10 beers on tap (both local and international), wine and nine craft island-style cocktails, with names inspired by novels and stories by Hemingway, like The Old Man and the Sea, made with Espolón Anejo Tequila, Banane du Brésil, Angostura bitters and tiki bitters; or For Whom The Bell Tolls, made with Old Forester Kentucky Straight Bourbon, allspice dram, passionfruit juice, lime juice and egg whites. They will also have packaged beer for sale.
Pilar is one of the newest additions to the revamped, pedestrian-friendly Court Street Plaza, which was unveiled in mid-June.
The $5.5 million plaza project — located on Court Street between Vine and Walnut streets — is an urban promenade with enough space to accommodate outdoor dining, events and pop-ups. With wide sidewalks and a "festival-style street," according to developer 3CDC, the area can easily be closed to cars and vehicle traffic as needed. Court Street Plaza will also feature public art. Pilar's grand opening kicks off at 4 p.m. on Aug. 28. For more info, follow Pilar on Facebook.
