Mac Shack's new gluten-free mac and cheese

If you happen to be a human with a gluten-intolerance (or are just avoiding it) but still want to indulge in some comfort food, Keystone's Mac Shack in Clifton is introducing a new gluten-free mac and cheese to its menu.

Starting July 12 — just ahead of National Mac + Cheese Day July 14 — the eatery will launch its veggie rotini noodles (which are also vegan), along with a special gluten-free cheese sauce.

"We've taken our traditional cheese sauce and substituted the ingredients to make it gluten-free without compromising the quality or flavors," says Mac Shack corporate chef Ray Recchia.

The new noodle-and-cheese combos will be available in favorite flavors like the Lovin’ Spoonful original vegetarian mac and cheese, and the Fleetwood Mac, which features mozzarella, pesto and tomato.

The new menu item release also coincides with CityBeat's Cincinnati Burger Week, July 12-18. The Mac Shack will be offering its classic mac and cheese mixed with seasoned ground beef, diced tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, french fries, ketchup and pickles — all served in a skillet.

Here are some of the other over-the-top $6 Burger Week creations you can try.

Keystone’s Mac Shack is located at 249 Calhoun St., Clifton. More info: facebook.com/eatmacshack.
