UPDATE: The restaurant reopened at 4:30 p.m. April 5 after repairs were quickly made, per a post on Instagram.
Bad news for Covington’s lunch rush: KungFood Chu’s AmerAsia just posted on Instagram that they’ll have to close the restaurant an indeterminate amount of time for repairs after a truck collided with its outdoor exhaust system.
“Closed for the day, possibly the week, possibly the month. Right now we don’t know,” the post reads. “Our number one concern with reopening this alley has happened after only less than a week of it being reopened. Our (city permitted) exhaust system has been ran into by a truck. Smoke is pouring into our kitchen.”
While it doesn’t seem there were any injuries as a result of the collision, a kitchen’s exhaust system is vital for safe daily operation, keeping the area clear of accumulated fumes and cooking smoke.
AmerAsia is both a lunch takeout and late-night dining staple in Covington, offering a menu full of traditional and unique takes on classic Chinese-American fare. Their homemade dumplings are especially popular, especially when paired with a beer from the bar’s extensive tap list.
AmerAsia recently took home honors in CityBeat's Best Of Cincinnati issue, ranking No. 2 for Best Overall Restaurant (Northern Kentucky) and Best Neighborhood Restaurant (Northern Kentucky), No. 3 for Best Beer Selection (Restaurant) and more.
KungFood Chu's AmerAsia is located at 521 Madison Ave., Covington. Follow @kungfoodchu on Instagram to keep up to date on the restaurant’s status.
