Formerly an interior designer, Amy Tobin is now a working mom who runs the popular EQ cooking program, has written a cookbook and hosts a Sunday morning talk show on Q102. She laughs at the oft-cited comparison between herself and that other lifestyle media mogul, Martha Stewart: "She's so perfect, so well ordered and conservative, while I'm a fully flawed individual." Still, as complicated as her life sounds, Tobin strives to simplify other people's lives. "High-end food is great," she acknowledges. "But that's not how I cook at home. I show people how to create simple, approachable stuff, but with a degree of style to it."

CityBeat: Where did you eat your last great meal, and what was it?

Amy Tobin: At Brown Dog Café I had sea bass with the most amazing sweet potato/acorn squash puree served over wilted spinach. Everything was exquisite: simple ingredients, superbly prepared.

CB: Have you had a guest on your radio show who just blew you away?

AT: Many of my guests blow me away, but Zhena Muzyka, founder of Zhena's Gypsy Tea, was incredible. She started the company with just pennies and grew it into a million-dollar business. One of her corporate goals is to end poverty in the areas where she sources tealeaves. And she's taken trapeze lessons!
