The Parish Kitchen (143 Pike St., Covington, 859-581-7745) serves meals 365 days a year. The only other place to eat in Covington that’s open that often is the Anchor Grill, but at the Parish Kitchen, there’s never a charge — and in this time of economic crisis, that means business at the Kitchen is booming. They served an all-time record number of meals last year (68,881) and are on track to exceed that number for 2010. If you think you know the type of folks who are guests at the kitchen for lunch on any given day, I bet you don’t know that some of them sit in high chairs and booster seats. (Anne Mitchell)

CityBeat: What’s the best meal you ate recently and where did you eat it?
Molly Navin
: Sausage and noodle casserole from my mother’s recipe, served at the Parish Kitchen! All our meals are great, but that one’s a crowd pleaser. And so is spinach salad! But if I had to pick a restaurant meal, I’d say pasta at Otto’s (521 Main St., Covington). It’s incredible.

CB: The holidays are coming. Any suggestions for people who want to feed the hungry?
MN
: It’s not a holiday thing. It’s an every day thing. People’s intentions are so good, and I don’t want to discourage anyone, but the holidays aren’t different than today. One thing that we always welcome? Homemade desserts. They always make meals special. And our guests need travel-sized deodorant and toothpaste, since they carry them. Small is good.
