Akin to the majority of 2020, Greater Cincinnati's annual Labor Day weekend fireworks have been altered from our traditional massive riverfront Riverfest gathering.
This year, the pyrotechnic display will be taking place at a top-secret location and will be broadcast on TV. And while you can't experience the booms while perched hillside among thousands of other sweaty humans, you can enjoy them while sipping on a boozy beverage inspired by the spirit of the momentous holiday.
In honor of what bar owner Stuart MacKenzie dubs "Newport Christmas," Jerry's Jug House has whipped up a limited-edition cocktail pouch that embodies the spirit of the cultural phenomenon.
"Frog Juice" was inspired by a decade-old memory of the sacred day that MacKenzie recalls in a Facebook post, introducing the pouch. A story so captivating shouldn't be summarized, so you should read it for yourself below.
According to MacKenzie in reference to what the heck's in the drink, "we tried to stay true to our people so it's a lot of vodka, some throwback cane sugar Mtn Dew (for color and energy), fresh lime juice (for balance), splash of blue gatorade (for hydration), and some fresh botanicals (keep you feelin' young)," he explains. "We're working on getting some cases of Tree Frog Beer (a old WEBN gag to add to it as well."
The pouch will be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 4-6) at Jerry's Jug House, while supplies last.
