Jell-O shots — the quintessential cocktail for college ragers, tailgates and your wild aunt's backyard cookout. But now that we're all social distancing and staying at home to help flatten the coronavirus curve, get-togethers are just a tad bit different, aren't they?
That doesn't mean you can't liven up your Zoom video party with a lil' bit of jiggle.
Newport's Jerry's Jug House is now offering "Jerry's Jug Jello Jammers," artisan Watermelon Jolly Rancher Margarita Jell-O shots with a chili-lime sprinkle topping — a real "pinky up" take on a classic.
They're available in packs of three for $10 or $4 each. They will be available through Sunday.
"The idea for the Jell-O shots came from one of our bartenders, Amelia. She and her boyfriend always have a stash at the house and we were talking about making the perfect margarita Jell-O shot. The chili-lime sauce is a nod to her 'Tia Maria,' who would always put a heaping portion of chili-lime seasoning on most dishes," says owner Stuart MacKenzie in a message.
The shots originally came in two-ounce containers, but "we thought in these trying times people needed the portions supersized to at least 3.25 ounces," MacKenzie says.
The bar also has bagged cocktails available in "Paradise Pouches" (16 ounce packs) for $12 each. The Fuego Alert is a jalapeno-cardamom spicy margarita and Life is Peachy is made with bourbon, house peach simple syrup and black tea.
