O'Bryonville's BonBonerie has opened a special outdoor and COVID-safe bakery Marketplace for the holidays.
With a focus on festive creations and delicious treats — from Opera Cream Tortes and gourmet cupcakes to decorated cut-out cookies and yule log cakes — the outdoor space is a tented operation taking over the Grandin parking lot at the intersection of Madison Road and O’Bryon Street.
“Our lobby is always so crowded during December, we had to find a way to keep social distance,” says Tracy Daugherty, BonBonerie general manager. “A lot of energy went into the Marketplace to make it safe and festive. In a way it’s more intimate than our indoor lobby because people aren’t rushed. You get to take your time picking out your items, talk to the staff, enjoy yourself. It’s what customer service is all about.”
The Marketplace will also feature free candy canes for kids and a letter drop-off for Santa.
If you've ordered online/placed a pre-paid order at the bakery, you can pick it up curbside in the parking lot — the entire lobby is closed to the public for the season as, the BonBonerie says, their “elves” work to bake and package thousands of cookies, cakes and pastries.
If you need same-day desserts, head to the Marketplace. The BonBonerie Cafe will still be open for dine-in (following all COVID safety protocols) and carry-out.
The BonBonerie Marketplace will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday until Christmas Eve and open 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The bakery lobby will reopen the Monday after Christmas.
O’Bryonville’s BonBonerie bakery is a Cincinnati institution. The female-owned sweeterie — renowned for its cult-favorite Opera Cream cake — has been in operation since 1983, handcrafting everything from tea cookies and fine pastries to elaborate wedding cakes and decorative Buche de Noel with fresh and indulgent ingredients. They were voted the Best Overall Bakery in the 2020 Best Of Cincinnati issue as well.
The BonBonerie is located at 2030 Madison Road, O'Bryonville. More info: bonbonerie.com.
