Upscale Over-the-Rhine eatery Sartre announced that it will be closing its doors after the new year. The restaurant is located beneath Rhinegeist Brewery and opened in the fall of 2017.
Announced in a Facebook post on Thursday, Dec. 26, the eatery explained that they would be closing after two years and thanked their patrons, farmers and craftsman. In the post they also invited guests to visit before their last day.
"Regretfully, after two wonderful years, Sartre will be closing its doors on Wednesday, January 1st," the post from Jim Cornwell and the Sartre staff read. "We are very grateful for the love and support from not only our guests, but from all the hard working farmers and craftsman that kept us supplied with inspiration. We would love to see all of you one last time before we go. Reservations are greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for your support. When one door closes, another opens. So stay tuned to see what we have planned for the space in early 2020!"
The name behind French(ish) brasserie the restaurant was conceived as a playful homage to philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. The eatery serves up a changing menu of snacks, shareables and mains with a Parisian bistro sensibility; offerings range from beignets to pappardelle bolognese to burger frites. Sartre is also a stupendous stop for drinks, offering multiple communal seating areas with a shabby chic industrial Art Nouveau vibe, flattering lighting and plenty of space for you and several of your friends. The décor is transportive without artifice, just like the drink selection.
The restaurant's last day open will be Dec. 31.
