Ghost Baby, a new subterranean nightclub/music venue, has officially opened beneath the streets of Over-the-Rhine. It's located at 1314 Republic St. and hours start at 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. The website says "reservations are recommended" but walk-ins are always welcome.
Ghost Baby is the brainchild of local entrepreneur Josh Heuser, founder of AGAR, the creative marketing and event agency known for its work on local experiences including the Ubahn Fest, BLINK, Danger Wheel and more.
The venue holds 160 guests and is located five stories below Vine Street in a 170-year-old lagering tunnel formerly used by Champion Brewing (beer was aged and cooled in lagering tunnels before the advent of refrigeration). The historic space, which has been vacant since the 1850s, is "a dimly-lit den of juke swaddled in crushed velvet and unpredictability. A clubby, grainy hideaway where every soul making an entrance transfigures the room," according to the website.
Basically, guests can expect an immersive experience with art, design, cocktails and music.
“My partners and I imagined an intimate and inviting space founded on the principles of consideration, respect and camaraderie. Our goal is to acknowledge each and every guests’ expectation as well as individual and collective experience,” says Heuser in a press release. "The Ghost Baby space was instrumental in bringing our concept to life. The space is exceptional; it has been around for a very long time and we are honored to care for the space, celebrate its beauty and pay homage to its history while also creating new experiences, stories and memories.”
To carry out the principles that are at the forefront of his venture, Heuser collaborated with The Academy, "a society of scholars, artists, socializers, observers, and the like, intent on establishing a space focused on inclusion and belonging and creating an inviting, one-of-a-kind experience," reads the release.
