A new restaurant is coming to the area around Coney Island in California, Ohio, near the recently opened Dead Low Brewing and forthcoming bike trail connecting the neighborhood to Lunken Airport. (The restaurant's logo is a pig riding a bicycle as a nod to the trail.)
Pig Candy BBQ Kitchen & Carryout is slated to open this winter.
The brainchild of couple Paul Montgomery and Christina Goehrig, the duo says the restaurant has been in the works since they bought a building on Kellogg Avenue five years ago.
“We fell in love with the historical character of the building,” says Montgomery. “We plan to create a place where folks feel good walking in and even better walking out.”
During renovations, they're adding indoor and outdoor dining, a full kitchen and a grab-and-go space.
Montgomery has decades of experience as a restaurant manager, and the Pig Candy BBQ menu will include "balance health with indulgence," says a release from Goehrig. There will be pulled pork, smoked and sliced turkey, grilled bone-in chicken thighs and vegetarian goetta, along with sides like smoked cheddar polenta and beer-baked white beans.
The name of the restaurant comes from a unique specialty menu item, Pig Candy: "a fluffy gluten-free waffle pressed with a healthy portion of pulled pork and served with pastry cream, salted pecan butter, and maple syrup."
“We are excited to contribute to the growth of this area, while serving up delicious food from this unique and special setting," says Montgomery.
