Neighborhood restaurant and natural wine bar Pleasantry OTR is putting together special meal packages for health care workers in local emergency rooms and ICUs.

Meals cost $10 and can be purchased on their website.

Pleasantry says, "Imagine that instead of 'distancing' right now, you were leaving home each day to interact with hundreds of people who all have in common the fact that they are sick. The doctors, nurses, techs and administrators do their work with care, with professionalism, and with selflessness. But they’re not immune to anxiety and they certainly feel overwhelmed during intense times like these. Through your generosity, we would like to nourish and support these teams, to show them how appreciated they are!"

As of yesterday, the restaurant had donated 1,400 meals to area workers and an anonymous donor has pledged to match the next 200 meals.

Over-the-Rhine's Allez Bakery is another businesses joining Pleasantry in this mission and is delivering loaves of bread and pints of soup to health care workers in the ER and on COVID-19 specific floors. The Takeaway Deli & Grocery on Main Street has also donated food and kitchen space to the cause.

I guess it’s called a pivot in business but I didn’t know that. We’ve had to change our model to keep staff employed-ish if they feel up to it, and it’s scary and humbling. We are jumping in with @pleasantryotr and their program of feeding those on the front line of this pandemic. We will be providing loaves of bread and pints of soup for hospital staff in the E.R. and in the covid-19 specific floors. . For anyone out there who asked “what can I do to help?” or “can I buy a gift card?” or just want to help keep a couple small businesses in business while also providing food to those facing it head on THIS IS YOUR CHANCE. For 10$ you provide a regular sized loaf of bread and pint of soup all wrapped up and ready to be taken home by a member of hospital staff. . How it works: go to @pleasantryotr and click the link to send a meal to a healthcare worker(you can send as many as you want). To date 1400 meals have been paid for and they have worked their way through half in just about a week. @takeawayonmain has donated food and a kitchen to cook for us. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO HELP. Please consider this if you want to do something but feel legally trapped at home. We will be open for bread and soup under the same restrictions we have had in place. If you have questions, ask. THIS IS THE TIME TO HELP.

Each meal purchased is prepared at Pleasantry and then delivered to hospitals including Christ Hospital, University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati Children's and Good Samaritan. You can also include a special message of thanks for the staff, plus your name and what part of town you are from "to provide these people with the sense that the whole city is behind them," says Pleasantry.

The restaurant says if they are required to close, they will transfer the remaining meal order funds to gift cards for the health care workers.
