Northern Kentucky food truck Taqueria Nogal has become a fast favorite around the region for its scratch-made Mexican eats since opening in 2019.

The truck moved from its original location in Newport to Dayton, Kentucky in July of 2020, and after a successful jaunt in the neighborhood's business district parking lot, the eatery is getting permanent digs just a few blocks down.

Restaurant Taqueria Nogal Domingo opens on May 5 — also known as Cinco de Mayo — and will feature all of the menu staples like tacos, burritos, tortas and quesadillas, plus former specials popular at the food truck like elote, birria tacos and nachos, now added to the daily menu. Taqueria Nogal will also feature a variety of non-alcoholic bevs like Jarritos, Topo Chico and Coca-Cola.

The eatery's new space will offer guests both dine-in seating and carry-out, with plans for a takeout window on the horizon.

Taqueria Nogal is owned by Valeriano Nogal and his sister-in-law Lidia Domingo, who are no strangers to the restaurant industry. Nogal previously worked at Newport's Mitchell's Fish Market and briefly at downtown's Sotto, and Domingo worked at Covington's Commonwealth Bistro and downtown's Mita's.

Domingo told CityBeat that the response from customers over the course of the pandemic was positive.

"Everybody is happy, everybody loves the food, everybody's very excited about the shop opening," says Domingo.

"My and my partner Vale are happy to do this. Started at the food truck and now moved to another big business. I'm so happy with that and so happy for the customer's support of our small business."

The restaurant will be open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
