Chef Joe West at the culinary team at The Palace restaurant at The Cincinnatian hotel (601 Vine St., Downtown) are hosting a monthly third Thursday cookout. 


From 5-9 p.m. on July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18 and Oct. 16, the team will put together interactive chef stations featuring dishes like baby kale salad, compressed cucumber and melons, fried chicken and gravy, rock shrimp po' boys, grilled oysters, lemon ice box cake and more. 

The dinner will also feature all-you-can drink wine, cold beer and batch cocktails. Rhinegeist will host a tasting at the July 17 dinner, with live acoustic music by Bluegrass band Ma Crow & the Lady Slippers.

Symposium had a soft opening May 6 only to be closed down days later due to a leaky sink. The wine bar and cafe finally hosted its grand opening on May 11, and as co-owner J. Matt Nickels tells CityBeat in an email, the business has been going strong ever since. The space features a main dining room with a lounge known as The Nest, a private dining and event space called the Rumpus Room, an outdoor patio that currently seats 10 (weather permitting) and Symposium’s three bars. Each bar offers something different — one serves coffee, the other has drinks and the last, food. Cocktails known as “Birdtails” are delicious, imaginative and avian-inspired and include the Magpie Gin and Tonic, Macaw Mojito and Bird on a Wire espresso martini. For dinner, chef Aaron Owen offers small plates, canapés, charcuterie and cheese boards, all of which are collected as “American tapas.”

Their menu is not high, but if you're looking for chicken this is the place to go! Their fried chicken sandwich is excellent, and the southern chopped salad is amazing.
