Shark Tank-favorite local grilled cheese chain Tom & Cheese is taking National Grilled Cheese Day seriously by expanding the April 12 holiday to a full month.

During National Grilled Cheese Month (aka April), guests can get one free grilled cheese — or, as Tom & Chee calls them, "melts" — with the purchase of three. Grab a Melt Passport from any participating location and they'll punch your card for every melt you buy for dine-in or carry-out. You can only get one punch per person per visit, but once you get three punches, you get your free grilled cheese.

“National Grilled Cheese Month is our favorite month, and one we always look forward to celebrating as a company with our fans,” said Roger David, president and CEO of Tom & Chee, in a release. “Typically, we celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day, but this year we wanted to make the celebration even better, so we’re spreading the ooey-gooey love all month long.”

Cincinnati Tom & Chee owner John Gerth says his favorite melt is the West of Philly, with mozzarella, slow-roasted beef, sautéed mushrooms, onions, peppers and garlic aioli on white bread. Other atypical melts include the chicken bacon ranch and grilled "Mac & Chee," topped with bacon and homemade mac and cheese between two slices of white bread.

These four area Tom & Chee restaurants are participating in the National Grilled Cheese Month promo:

  • 125 E. Court St., Downtown
  • 1 Levee Way, Newport
  • 9328 Union Centre Blvd., West Chester
  • 7578 Beechmont Ave., Anderson Towne Center
