Local coffee pop-up Unataza Coffee is hosting the grand opening of its brick in mortar location today (Sept. 23).

The shop is located at 620 Sixth Ave. in Dayton, Kentucky and will be open from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m., with the food menu available at 10:30 a.m. and the official ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.

Unataza Coffee began in 2015 when owner Alejandra Flores wanted to find a way to connect two of the places that she loves most — Greater Cincinnati and Honduras, where she was born — through a medium she was passionate about.

"I began to notice how the people of NKY and Cincinnati had developed a passion for specialty coffee. At the same time, I know Honduras is starting to be recognized as one of the countries that produces coffee of the best quality and taste," an excerpt on the Unataza website explains. "Finally, it clicked, and Unataza was born."

The shop offers daily coffee service, a food menu and will eventually host private events, like Spanish or English classes or coffee brewing classes.

Flores says Dayton “has shown their support throughout the different pop-ups we have done in their city activities, they all have expressed the need to have a local coffee shop or a place where they can gather. Also, the city of Dayton is rapidly growing, developing new residentials, commercial activities and keeping up with other NKY cities, located along the river.”

Unataza Coffee also sells its single-origin coffee online and at pop-up events across the city.
