Friday night at Newport, Ky.’s Southgate House Revival offers a great opportunity to sample some new (and new-ish) bands and artists from the Greater Cincinnati music scene. The New Music Festival 2 kicks off at 7 p.m. with singer/songwriter Sarah Mann. Tickets are $8 in advance here or $10 at the door.
Though newer, several of the groups feature some familiar faces. Carian contains members of Lovecrush88 and Royal Bloody Family features musicians from Circus of the Sun and Smoke Healer. Soulgroup is an acoustic project with Matt Bischoff and David McElfresh of Moobow and area guitar guru Mike Reeder, who’s also in NMF2 performers Chalk Eye and T&R Railway. Reeder co-organized the event with Andrea Simler-DeGolier, who fronts Chakras as well as Wilde Violet, who play NMF2 as 9:45 p.m. Friday.
