Awkward Threesome

For you faithful Facebook heads who refuse to believe Twitter is what’s up right now, you’re wrong. Tweeting lets you do status updates, post pictures … and maybe even plan musical collaborations with everyone’s favorite hair-flipping cutie pie. That one random kid Kanye West was following on Twitter has been replaced ... by Justin Bieber. The two tweeted about working on a song together and, not long after, the duo turned into a trio with the addition of Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon. While little Bieber referred to the collaboration as “EPIC,” we’re all sitting back with our “Huh?” faces on. We find it hard to believe that a 16-year-old would even know what the Electric Slide is, let alone any music by Wu-Tang. Alas, the magic is already under way — West tweeted that he was in the studio with Raekwon and that the track is almost done. This whole situation gets a side-eye from Minimum Gauge. But we can’t say we’re not a little curious to hear the results.

Use Somebody … Else

Apparently, Kings of Leon doesn’t want anyone using their music but them. Since the 2008 release of Only by the Night, the world has finally come to appreciate their awesomeness and now everyone wants a piece. The producers of Glee — the best TV show to ever happen to high school show choirs — reportedly asked the band if they could use KoL music in the upcoming season, but the Kings said no. We gleeks appreciate all the music the show reinterprets and imagine it’s only beneficial to the original artists. But KoL’s Caleb Followill said he’s never seen the show and added that the band also declined an offer to appear on Ugly Betty. You’d think KoL would be more welcoming to these flattering proposals but, according to NME, the band (which records for the tiny, dignified RCA Records, also home to all American Idol-related releases) didn’t want to “sell out.” Or maybe it’s professional jealousy? Last year, the cast of Glee had more singles on Billboard’s Hot 100 than any artist since The Beatles in 1964.

Dude Looks Like a “Maybe”

According to one of his bandmates, “the ink is dry” on the contract Steven Tyler has signed with Fox to be one of the new judges for American Idol. Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton told a New Jersey newspaper that the 62-year-old singer will, in fact, be on the show to replace one of the three departing judges. If this really happens, we might actually start watching. Not for the talented, young artists trying to break into the music industry, but for the one-man entertainment machine (or potential train wreck) that is Steven Tyler. The luscious-lipped singer (who broke his shoulder falling off a stage last year) has been making other headlines recently after being shoved off, or, um, accidentally bumped off the stage when guitarist Joe Perry backed into him in the middle of a song. So now that we’ve determined Tyler is old and lacks balance, what will this mean for the upcoming season of American Idol? Lots of “back in my day!”s and the return of Paula Abdul’s “lost puppy” dizziness? Since Fox is keeping “hush, hush,” we'll have to wait and see.
