The holidays are a good time to be a music fan who lives in a town that's harvested a lot of talented musicians. Many of the ones who have moved away come back home for a visit and want to play a show. Bands that live around here and tour a lot might offer local fans a special performance, something often more casual and fun than usual. And the rest of them are working to buy holiday gifts and/or impress their own out-of-town friends by playing a big-time show.
Boom Bip’s career has skyrocketed since he left Cincy for the West Coast earlier this decade. Now based in L.A., Bip (Bryan Hollon) has done Peel Sessions, toured the globe, remixed tracks for Mogwai, Four Tet, M83 and Danny Elfman, remained the dominant force on Lex Records (also home to Danger Mouse) and formed an Electro duo with Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals called Neon Neon. And that’s just hitting some of the resume highlights.
On New Year’s Eve, Bip will be performing a DJ set at Tonic on 4th downtown with DJ Mowgli. Call 513-721-1345 for reservations.
