Local AltRock band Seabird is ready to host what is sure to be the most unique local music experience of the year (and the most original "CD release party" concept since late local Indie Pop band Morals Galore had theirs at a Northern Kentucky strip club).
To celebrate its new album 'Til We See the Shore (which came out June 24), Seabird (with special guest Peter Adams) will be rollin' on the river, as the release show will be held on the Belle of Cincinnati. The BB Riverboat cruise sets sail at 10:30 p.m. (boarding begins at 10). Tickets are $20 and can be purchased via bbriverboats.com or by calling 859-261-8500. The boat departs from 101 Riverboat Row, along the shore of Newport.
'Til We See the Shore is the band's first long-player for Credential Recordings, a label distributed by EMI and home to several "Christian Rock" bands (though, like Seabird, ones that aren't overt or didactic). Indeed, it doesn't take a believer to become entranced by Seabird's slick, emotive, piano-driven Pop, which recalls the hovering Pop majesty of bands like Coldplay and Travis.
Seabird kicks off a nationwide tour in July that will see it performing at several music festivals, including the lauded Christian music Woodstock, Cornerstone, and dates at such hallowed venues as the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington. (seabirdmusic.com)
Local Bands Give 'Head
Uh, Radiohead, that is. Thom Yorke and Co. will be the subjects of "I Might Be Wrong: A Radiohead Tribute Show," featuring a solid lineup of local bands playing their favorite 'Head songs at Covington's Mad hatter Saturday night..
Proceeds from the show (and the various raffles throughout the night) will go to Kids Count Inc., a local non-profit that specializes in "Early Intervention Therapy" for special needs children.
Artists slated to appear at the 8 p.m. show include Lovely Crash, Mad Anthony, The Turkeys, Angels of Meth, The Strongest Proof, 7 Speed Vortex, Mala In Se, Knife the Symphony, Madras Lounge and many others. To see the full lineup and selected songs, go to myspace.com/radioheadtributeshow.
MidPoint Music Fest Announcement
The first act signed on to play September's MidPoint Music Festival has been announced. Dayton Indie Rock legend Bob Pollard will be a part of the festival, playing with his new band, Boston Spaceships. The MPMF appearance will mark the kick-off of an extensive tour by the Spaceships, which includes former Guided By Voices co-hort Chris Slusarenko and The Decemberists' John Moen. More invited, national acts will be announced soon.
The judging of unsigned bands' submissions is wraped and the first batch of invites have been sent out.
