Carina Round

March 3 • Taft Theatre

Eight years ago, Interscope Records released a compilation called Freshly Squeezed: The Best New Music of 2004 with issues of Spin magazine. The collection assembled a strange smattering of artists signed to the label, from future big-timers (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Keane, Rufus Wainwright) to perpetual obscurities (Abdel Wright, The Davey Brothers). It was a fairly good comp, but one track in particular stuck out — Carina Round's virile, ominous “Into My Blood,” a slow-burning masterpiece full of fantastically apocalyptic and occultist imagery filtered through the perspective of one woman.

The song sounded like an introduction to a would-be superstar, but things never took off for the British, PJ Harvey-esque singer/guitarist. Low profile since (her last album was in ’04, but a new album is due soon), Round passed an audition to join Puscifer and Maynard James Keenan made her back-up vocals a prominent feature on Conditions of My Parole. On this tour, Round will perform with the headliners after opening with a set of her own material.

CARINA ROUND plays Saturday, March 3 at Taft Theatre with Puscifer. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
