This Friday, Cincinnati group Modern Aquatic (a favorite of the late WNKU) is releasing its stellar new single, “Petrichor,” a swirl of warm, endearing melodic hooks and twilight-twinkling guitar riffs. Ahead of the single’s release, the band — which cites artists like The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, Cage the Elephant and Hippo Campus as influences — has issued its first music video. The clip for “Petrichor" was created by Ohio State University film studies and video art student Brynne McGregor, who combined vintage footage from the Prelinger Archives (a collection of thousands of “ephemeral,” mostly public domain films) with video shot of Modern Aquatic’s members frolicking in craft stores around the Greater Cincinnati area.
“Petrichor” is the first of three singles Modern Aquatic plans to release in 2018. The track was recorded at the new Sabbath Recording facilities with engineers Matt Latchaw, Chad Wahlbrink and Jacob Merritt, the former Pomegranates member who also played drums on the track.
Modern Aquatic’s next local show is May 4 at MOTR Pub with Season Ten. Check out more MA music here and get the latest band updates here.
