Cincinnati music greats Over the Rhine will wrap up their 30th-anniversary year with a trio of hometown shows this December.

The band has announced they will perform their "Acoustic Christmas" program at Memorial Hall on Dec. 20, 21 and 22. (The Dec. 22 show is a 2 p.m. performance; the other two shows begin at 8 p.m.)

Tickets ($40-$65) go on sale this Friday (Aug. 30) at 10 a.m.

Over the Rhine has several shows lined up for their annual holiday touring this year, including concerts in St. Louis, Louisville, Chicago and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In a letter reminiscing about their Christmas tradition, OTR's Linford Detweiler writes (with partner Karin Berquist "close by") about what to expect this year.

In 2019, more than twenty years after releasing our first holiday CD, we are still at it. This year, we will be leaning into three-part harmonies and making an intimate but hopefully holy ruckus. It won’t be all Christmas music: we’ll certainly mix in tunes from many of our records along the way. But hopefully it’s still true: hopefully you haven’t heard anything quite like it.

Maybe a midnight snow will fall and turn each streetlight into its own private snow globe. Maybe, regardless of whatever reality Christmas brings, we’ll hear a faint echo of a song once rumored to have been sung by angels, a song of peace on earth, goodwill toward all…
